In July 2008, Phase-I of the Mimico Waterfront Linear Park (MWLP) was officially opened to the public, stretching west 500m from Superior Ave (Amos Waites Park) to Norris Crescent. This $10.6 million project, a joint effort by Waterfront Toronto and the TRCA, includes a sand dune, a boardwalk, protection of the shoreline, and improvements to terrestrial and aquatic habitats.
Now, Phase-II of the MWLP will begin construction this Summer (2011), extending this trail 500m east from Amos Waites Park to Humber Bay Park West. This will connect Etobicoke with the Waterfront Trail leading into downtown Toronto, continuing the revitalization of Toronto's waterfront as a public space. This $9.6 project is funded by all three levels of government through Waterfront Toronto, and is scheduled for completion by Autumn of 2012.
We will keep an eye on the construction of the new trail, and will report on any future progress!
